Beautiful flowers make a room feel fresh

Don't you just love it when you have fresh flowers to brighten up your home?

Well I don't have a green thumb, ask anyone, but luckily I have a very talented sister who loves to garden..and it shows!

When I stopped by her home after work the other day I ended up having a glass of wine and taking home a piece of rhubarb pie and a beautiful bouquet of flowers...
p.s. they still look great three days later!

When is a deal, no longer a deal?

Once again I ventured into the stores when I should have stayed at home!  But nothing feels quite as good as a deal when you're talking home decorating, or any other shopping for that matter!

First I found these two cute bolsters for my beige Adirondack chairs!  They are a deep turquoise and have a lattice like beige and white design.  A little different than I might normally pick, but what the heck? It will be a little "pop" in my somewhat browny beige backyard.

Next it was off to my local Habitat for Humanity Restore outlet.  First, right inside the door, I found this sweet baby...

What is it you say?  Well...my first thought was that it was a chicken feeder.  It's galvanised tin and looks pretty "eclectic" and I like it! And I liked the price...$5.00! Whaaat you say?  Oh I said it...$5.00!  Well a little more investigation and I found out that it is actually a chicken waterer...is that right? Waterer? Well it is used to hold water for the chickens:)  So I was pretty close..but no cigar.  After perusing the aisles a little bit to see if there is anything else I liked I came across a few windows and doors that I liked for future projects,
and then I came to the lighting aisle.  What's that you say?  How many lights can such a small home actually use?  I know...and I told myself that...over and over again, but I just didn't listen..again.

They had Hampton Bay fixtures at the Restore that match my chandelier in my bedroom, but the burnished brown..not the white that I have. Now I know what you're thinking..they aren't the right colour.  Well I thought about that..and you know you can paint pretty much anything...but I'm really not sure where I would put them first of all, and secondly...I may just give them away if someone could use them and I can't.  But that's a decision I'll make later.  Now back to the deal.  Hampton Bay Heritage Wall Sconce..$20.00. Well you know what happened next.  Correct! I had to buy two...just in case there was some place that I found to hang them and I actually needed a pair.  But I wasn't done yet.  A Hampton Bay Chandelier $20.00.  Again...no where to put it....yet.  But maybe a little girls room..or a bathroom...who knows?
So again I ask "When is a deal not a deal?" If you don't need it?  I just can't accept that.  I was shopping like it was my job!  Ahhh, a girl can dream can't she?

Don't hide your light...

I used to think that as long as I had lighting everything was good.  It's only recently that I discovered that lighting is actually more important to me than I had once realized.
While shopping at Target the other day I came across a sweet little table lamp that I felt I had to have for my dresser
Whatdaya think?
Me too!  I think I love it!...So much so that I rushed back to get another....
Ignore the industrial sized weigh scale...and the reflection in the faux fireplace...and the general messiness.
Try to focus on the lamps..and how they are the perfect size to balance out my fireplace!
Have I convinced you yet?  Have I convinced me yet?
Not sure. These little beauties were only $18. dollars each, and the shades were 10. each.  I thought that was a pretty sweet price for two highly reflective jewels for my bedroom.  They don't have any light bulbs yet...but that's a minor detail..
Sure, I'm an impulse buyer..and for that reason I should be staying out of the stores for sure...but when I do happen to stop by...I might as well take advantage of a deal when I see one.
Stay tuned to see if these babies make the cut...I would'nt bet against them!

Game on...

I have a group of great friends, who I love, and we get together at each others home as often as we can to have dinner and play some games.
While we all have our favourites, domino's, wizards, rumoli, etc., the real reason we get together is the friendship and love we have for each other.
I know that sounds corny...but it's true.  We love each other.
No matter what happens in our lives, this group of friends stand strong.  We may kid each other while the game is going on, and we've certainly had our ups and downs, but we know who we can count on when the going gets tough.
I've spoken to so many people who don't have a close group of friends...and they think they just haven't been lucky or fortunate enough to find someone they can relate to... but I think they need to take a long, hard, look in the mirror.  A good friend doesn't just fall in your lap.  You have to be a good friend first.  Sometimes doing things you're not crazy about, just because your friend needs you to be there...whether it's listening to a problem, running an errand with them that they don't want to do alone, or help with their weeding!!!...Doesn't matter!
You show me a lonely person, and I'll show you a person who has never learned how to be a good friend. Sometimes it's just putting yourself out there with friendly word, a compliment, and an invite to go for coffee.
You're really missing out on so much, not having a good friend to share your life with.
Now, go back and take a long look in that mirror.
What do you see now?

Spring is Here...

A Shelfie...
I've been wanting to update this shelf ever since I starting updating my living room with gray grey (what? gray...grey..) accents. Hopefully the glass and ornaments will pop a little more with the darker colour.  I've always loved the green that I have on these walls, and although I still love it, I think ten years means it's time for a change. Who am I kidding? It took me months to paint the back of the shelf...who knows when the walls will get done? It will take me months to pick a colour!
Dining Room Windows
Window Dressing

Living in the city means that privacy is at a premium.  Two years ago my tree in the back yard fell down and exposed me to seventeen...count em...seventeen windows overlooking my yard! More about the back yard later...

I always seem to keep my dining room shades closed because the windows overlook not only my neighbours driveway, but is lined up exactly across from their dining room window! As you can see, the windows are a pretty large size, so it really does feel like a bit of a stage when they are wide open.

That all changed when I happened up a blog called Seventh House on the Left Ashley not only had a great tutorial for covering your windows, but she also put a template up on her site for everyone to download and use.  She and her husband have a great blog and I encourage everyone to stop by and see all of the wonderful projects they have undertaken.
Back door Update
 Next...the back door
First I did the dining room, and I really love it!  It sure isn't perfect, but it has made such a difference in the whole room now that I am willing to open the blinds!
I had put a full piece of window film on my backdoor a couple of years ago, but I had banged into it with a box and scratched the surface which made it look a little awful, but since doing the dining room windows, I was up for the challenge. I pulled off the film and started anew!
I used the same template, why mess with something that works, and voila! The back door has an updated look for the summer of 2014!
Now if I could just do something about the yard!

50 Shades of Grey...well, not quite!

Just before Christmas my son and his girlfriend helped me to transform my livingroom from beige and brown, to...surprise!...grey.
It still has a long way to go, but during her move I was fortunate to have this couch given to me by this same girlfriend.  Pretty nice eh? I previously had a couch and loveseat which had been my Mom's. It wasn't the set I would have chosen, but it certainly came in handy when I ventured out on my own, looking for a fresh start, I was in dire need of all the help I could get...and that furniture certainly came in handy. Right now this picture is centered on the sofa for a very good reason..the rest of the livingroom is filled with my old furniture:)  In my tiny house that doesn't leave much room to move around, let alone take pictures. I will fine tune the room and try and post more pictures as soon as I can!
Stay tuned!!

Enough already!!!

This is the view I had when I tried to venture out to work today.
Not nice.  I did end up turning around after giving it the old college try. It seemed sillier the further I went to be driving in to a snow storm, slipping and sliding all over the road. The curious thing is I found that I found it worse to drive in this weather than the last storm we had. But although they cancelled the buses then, the school board didn't cancel the buses today.
We might have less snow, but the conditions with the blowing snow are certainly worse because there is limited visibility.
Hope everyone gets home safe tonight!
