Yes!! Finally I took the giant step toward changing my fireplace...

You remember my fireplace looked like this...

Yes you read that right...I painted my fireplace! And by me, I mean my son, his girlfriend, and well, I me.  I had the fireplace taped off and newspapers laid out and I waited...and pondered,...till finally my son came over and said "do you want to get that fireplace painted?".  And well, I did, and that's all it took! We were off to the races:).

In for a penny....once I started there was no turning back....

Not looking too shabby, and with three of us working away we got the painting done in record time. The paint is a mixture of grey and white (both Benjamin Moore) as I thought the  straight white might be a little too much. This was just right!

Ta Da!!  I like love it!

This looks so much better now, don't you think? I know some people are totally against painting brick...no matter how ugly..but not me! Not now!

What's next in this transformation you ask? Or more aptly...what do I do next? Well, I realized pretty quickly that I am not a fan of the orangey finish of my mantel and book shelves..so they have to go....gray!!

Stay tuned...

Weekend Warrior

Do you ever planned all of your projects for the weekend and then you're faced...with the weekend?  I'm a planner, or as I like to call me..a thinker.  I can think a weekend right away if I let myself. But this weekend I'm hoping to get a few projects started...and maybe even surprise myself by finishing one or two of them.
First on the agenda: My fireplace. I love having a fireplace, but I'm not crazy about the brick colour. It seems to be too dark for the room. I am looking for something of a cottage feel..a little shabby chic..but then it is what should I do with it?
There is the option of trimming out the fireplace with a wooden facade..and then I could paint it or antique it. Then there is the option of paint. I thought that might be an option, but I'm just not sure that I would like that solid paint look. Then I came across the blog..Beneath My Heart... http://www.beneathmyheart.net/ Traci and her husband built an addition on their home and left the exterior brick wall...now an interior wall...exposed brick. Feeling it was too orange, the decided to whitewash the brick. I loved the look! But can I duplicate it? I've decided to try and do just that! I just have to gather up the nerve to actually do that!!!! What do you think?

Work in Progress..

It may seem like I've abandoned my goal of having a blog. Not so fast..I've slowly but surely been working away trying to get my "blogging" skills up to par.
Right now I'm still in the planning stage...trying to get my ducks in a row so that I'm not wasting time...and mostly money. It's so easy to get caught up in wanting to get so much down in your home that you lose sight of the project you are starting.
Stay tuned...
