Trial and Error(s)

This post is mostly for myself..obviously..as my blog does not have even one lonely follower...yet. This is mostly due to the fact that I have only vaguely said I was starting a blog about my home projects...not that I want anyone to follow it yet.  Is that common? Do most bloggers start out wanting to find the perfect header (not yet found) the right font (still experimenting) and more importantly, something to write about that they believe people would be interested in reading! I guess it's just beginners jitters.

I could also say that about my "loose" commitment to whitewash my fireplace brick! While I have progressed to the point of clearing off the mantel, I have not actually done anything else to move forward with the project.
I'd also like to use a type of board and batten wainscoting in my living room/dining room area, but I just don't know what it will look like with the unpainted woodwork. I love the look of painted wood work, but I'm having a hard time committing to it. I guess that  means I'm not ready to pull the trigger on my wood work. I'm trying to work on the little things that go into making a blog work properly...in this case it's trying to make links to other blogs, websites, etc. Let's try this...one of the blogs, Beneath My Heart, has a beautiful example of white washed brick..here Thanks Traci! Stay tuned...we're a work in process.

Yaris...you rock!!

I think I have developed the gene my two boys have inherited from their Dad....the car gene.  Does not matter what they add to their cars...price seems to be no option..but when it comes to spending money on the house...they do it...but they do it a little more grudgingly. Well I have now become a member of their club....and I love it!
I was convinced by my oldest that a new car was the way to go...and boy was he right.  I LOVE my new car!  I purchased a 2013 Yaris 4 door hatchback.  I told myself not to have too many expectations for this basic little car...but boy was I surprised.
My sweet little ride has been great from the get go.  It feels so big inside and I love the ride.  Not sure how it's going to be in the winter...but I'll deal with it.
Thank you so much to both my wonderful sons who support me no matter what I do...love, love, love them.

Blogger Envy

While I have been anticipating my foray into blogging I think I am being mesmerised by the bloggers I admire.  I have been following quite a few blogs that I really enjoy but in some ways that is hampering me from writing my own blog. I don't believe I'll measure up some how. I keep putting pressure on myself and that seems to give me an out to post on my blog. Well no more! LOL
Who am I kidding? Please bear with me while I try to figure out just what the heck I think I'm doing here!
In the meantime...I think you should check out some of the bloggers I love, to love:)
http://www.younghouselove.com/

are just a couple of the ones I love...check them out, and I'll keep you updated on the other ones I love...

Oh I love a rainy night...

Well you got that right!...I'm sitting out on my porch at 10:25 at night on a Friday in July and life couldn't be better.  It's a cool, light rain and the inner city traffic is the background music for the evening while I sit and sip my Forty Creek Whiskey. This is the life.
I spent the day waiting patiently for the phone call that never came, to tell me that they had found my new car. This is not just any new car, this is my first new car! I guess there is a first time for everything:)
My dear old Mazda Protege has seen me through many a year..but at the ripe ole age of 14 she has seen better days. I realize it is just a matter of time before she gives up the ghost and leaves me stranded, once again, on the side of the highway on my way to work.
My oldest son convinced me that it was time to bite the bullet and buy a new car. Since he works at Toyota, and consistently they are offering up a pretty good no interest deal right now, that the time was right to get me into a brand spanking new vehicle. I have to admit that I am pretty excited at the prospect.
The car? A 2013 Toyota Yaris. I know what you're thinking...Yaris? But it's a sweet little ride and I can't wait till it's mine. My Mazda? Well she's done a great job the last few years getting me from a to b...usually...but it's time for a new kid on the block.  This one I hope will take me to retirement and beyond!!!! Although my colour choice was limited (three colours...WTF?) I hope that my first, first choice, will be able to be located.  I don't know what I'll do if the only car available is silver. No offence to my old Mazda...but please....no more silver!!!! I wait with bated breath for my dark grey Yaris to appear.
Stay tuned....

Road Trip..

Today I took a much anticipated day off to try and catch up with some work around the house and just kind of recharge. Well the nicest of things happened. My friend Steph offered to take me on a tour of the wine country area we are so lucky to live in, and let me be the passenger for the day.
Well how could I turn that down?
I packed a light lunch and off we went to lose ourselves for a couple of hours on a beautiful, breezy, July day.

First stop.. Lakeshore Antiques in NOTL. I had never even heard of this place before today, but what a lot of fun we had rummaging through the store finding treasures, memories, and lots of laughs. There were two ladies manning the store and they were extremely nice and helpful. I ended up up what I call a cottage toaster..and yes, it works! They were helpful enough to plug it in for me to make sure that I would be able to use it if I so desired.

The rest of the day went by quickly, with a stop along the water for lunch, and just a general meandering throughout the rest of the afternoon. Stephanie knows how to show a girl a good time...and a good time was certainly had by me. I can't forget our stop at the candy store... Nigh's Chocolates is an unforgettable experience if you love chocolate...and lets face it...who doesn't love chocolate? Even though there was a ton of construction going on out in front of their store...business still continued in Candyland.
So many different types of chocolate to choose from...and yet..I still was able to make my choice. Chocolate covered black licorice (a personal favourite of mine) and a mix with hot peppers which turned out to be divine. Of course I can't make a habit of stopping there regularly...but you can! It's a great little something for the person who has everything. I got my sister a wine glass cover..."I like my men like I like my chocolate...rich" hope that applies to her husband as I gotten pretty used to having him around!
